Aspectos e efeitos da creatina sobre o sistema renal e hepático

Resumo

Enquanto o consumo de creatina por atletas e praticantes de atividade fí­sica que desejam aumentar a massa muscular e o desempenho fí­sico tem crescido vertiginosamente, os efeitos adversos desse suplemento continuam sendo alvos de debates. O objetivo desta revisão é descrever aspectos gerais da creatina, seu metabolismo e impacto na composição corporal. Enfatizam-se possí­veis efeitos colaterais prejudiciais, em especial sobre a função renal e hepática. Há muitas contradições e lacunas na literatura, fatores que contribuem para a divergência do tema, uma vez que os resultados disponí­veis são contraditórios. Levando-se em conta que estudos sobre possí­veis efeitos tóxicos da suplementação com creatina são escassos, sugere-se investimento adicional para avaliar a relação custo-benefí­cio de sua suplementação.
