Introdução: Health Care-Related Infections (IRAS) represent a major obstacle to the health recovery of critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and their magnitude can result in prolonged hospitalization, disabling sequelae and death. The main way of combating cross-infection refers to the conduct of the multidisciplinary team in the hospital environment. Hand washing was elected the simplest and most important measure in the control of nosocomial, cross and community infections, as it represents an activity that is easy to perform and has low economic cost. Objective: To analyze the scientific production on nursing knowledge on cross-infection in the neonatal ICU. Methods: Integrative literature review carried out in June 2021 through the crossing of descriptors in the Lilacs, DOAJ, Medline and BDEnf databases. Results: Of the 282 articles found, six answered the leading question and were selected for the sample. The studies showed that the nursing team has great knowledge about the factors that facilitate the prevention and control of hospital infections, especially cross-infection in the ICU, the main technique being hand hygiene. Conclusion: The data obtained reveal that health professionals know the mechanisms for prevention but do not put them into practice.
