The epidemiological profile of people living with HIV has been undergoing a process of change, in which there is a reduction in mortality and increased longevity along with the morbidity rate, which significantly influences the quality of life indicators of this population. This study aims to verify how the scientific literature classifies the quality of life, as well as the instruments used to measure the quality of life of people living with HIV. Methods: Scientific databases, Pubmed and Lilacs were used. For the bibliographical analysis, a structured form was used, validated by Ursi (2005) and adapted to the peculiarities of the selected guiding questions. The following variables were analyzed: instrument for conceptualizing QOL used in data collection, results, conclusion, level of research evidence, and intervention. Results: The final sample had 21 articles, the most cited domains in the surveys were the physical, social and psychological, respectively. It was observed in 60% of the articles that antiretroviral treatment is one of the factors that impact the quality of life and, at the same time, it is the cause of morbidity in the population. Conclusion: It was noticed that the quality of life is influenced by several factors, including the support and effective care in terms of evasion of antiretroviral therapy. In view of the adverse effects, it is up to the state to promote effective public policies to encourage treatment by reducing dropouts, as well as the continuing education of professionals who work in the multidisciplinary network, in order to strengthen bonds, offering effective social support for people living with HIV.
