Abstract

Integrative review aimed at identifying the manifestations of familial adenomatous polyposis syndrome (APS) and its implications for nursing care. The inclusion criteria were considered to be a case report and/or clinical report that deals with the APS syndrome, available in full, timeless, and in Portuguese, English and/or Spanish and that meets the objective of the study, totaling five cases selected for the sample. The most frequent clinical manifestations were hematochezia, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Nursing needs to broaden its look at possible cases of undiagnosed APS during their outpatient consultations and home visits. After surgery, it is up to nursing to carry out a health education process aimed at self-care in relation to the ostomy, advising on maintenance, hygiene and exchange of collection bags in order to avoid the appearance of phlogistic signs and local dermatitis.
