Abstract

Objective: To present the neurological complications associated with post-infection with SARS-CoV-2 in adults. Methods: This is an integrative bibliographic review. The PICO strategy was used to elaborate the research question. The terms of The Medical Subject Headings distributed as follows were used: (neurologic manifestation OR neurologic symptoms) AND (complications) AND (post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection OR post-acute COVID-19 syndrome) AND (COVID-19) AND (SARS-CoV-2) AND (adults), with a publication date range from 2019 to 2022. The selected databases were: Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library, Pubmed and Scientific Electronic Library Online. Results: Using the descriptors, 249 studies were identified, of which nine were adequate for the purpose of the study and met the inclusion criteria (original studies in Portuguese, Spanish or English, with living or deceased adults who had neurological complications after infection with COVID-19 that cannot be linked to other causes). The methodology most used by researches was the case study. In all, 17 post-infection complications were recognized, the most recurrent being parosmia (24%), headache (18%) and brain fog (12%). Conclusion: It is observed that COVID-19 causes complications after the acute phase of the disease that affect the neurological system.
