Abstract

Objective: Reveal the knowledge of the nursing team about delirium in hospitalized elderly, after carrying out a process of construction and implementation of a care plan for the prevention and control of delirium. Methods: This is a descriptive exploratory study with a qualitative approach, which used the Convergent Care Research (PCA) as a methodological reference. Results: A semi-structured interview was carried out with 28 nursing professionals in the diagnostic phase and 24 professionals in the post-intervention phase in the unit under study, carried out in June 2019 and May 2021. We analyzed the development of the team's knowledge regarding the theme with the help of the theoretical constructs of the educator Paulo Freire, and what is the reflection of the acquisition of this knowledge in the assistance to the hospitalized elderly population. Conclusion: It is noteworthy that with the use of an active methodological learning strategy, professionals acquired scientific property about delirium in the elderly, being able to correlate it with their care practices, making them able to generate changes in reality.
