The aging process is constantly growing worldwide; especially in developing countries population is projected to increase. The objective of the present study was to analyze the body image of active and sedentary elderly women from a community center in the city of Teresina/PI. This research was a transversal, descriptive and quantitative study. The sample consisted of a group of 40 elderly women divided into two groups: 20 physical activity practitioners and 20 sedentary elderly women. Initially, a complementary script was used and then the nine silhouettes scale. For data analysis, the chi-square test was performed with a significance level of p < 0.05 and the statistical program was STATA 12.0. The results showed that the mean age of the elderly women evaluated was 67.6 ± 6.8 years, and that 77.5% were dissatisfied with their body image, mainly due to the excess weight (67.50%). It was also observed that there was no statistically significant difference between the group of active and sedentary women with respect to their body image (p = 0.563). Therefore, dissatisfaction with body image was prevalent in both groups, being these elderly active or not.
