Objective: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the indicators of sarcopenia and risk factors for falls in healthy elderly women over 60 years of age. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 30 elderly women, in which sarcopenia indicators were evaluated using the following tests: gait velocity, hand gripping force of the dominant and non-dominant arm and calf circumference. We also used the SARC-F questionnaire for sarcopenia screening. To evaluate the risks of falls and concern in fall, we used the Downton and Falls Efficacy Scale International scales (FES-I Brazil) respectively. The patients were divided into three groups: G1, young women aged 60 to 69 years; G2 elderly women aged 70 to 79 years; G3 very old with age equal or superior to 80 years. Results: There was a small decrease in gait velocity only in G3, all groups showed decrease in hand gripping force of the dominant and non-dominant arm. Regarding the scales applied, the groups G2 and G3 had a history of sporadic falls and all groups presented a high risk of falls. Conclusion: We concluded with the present study that all the groups evaluated presented a decrease in muscle strength and a high risk of falls, although none of the groups presented sarcopenia.
