Introduction: Body composition is a factor of great influence on sports performance of athletes. In an ancillary way resistance training (RT) has the role of assisting maintenance and development of fundamental physical valences for athletes. Among the RT models, the RT associated with blood flow restriction (BFR) becomes an alternative capable of helping to preserve the athletes' good body composition. Objective: To verify the effects of RT without and with blood flow restriction on body composition in soccer players. Methods: Eighteen soccer players under 20 were randomly assigned a group of traditional resistance training (GTT; n = 9) and resistance training with blood flow restriction (GRF; n = 9) and trained for 4 weeks. Results: Both groups did not change body composition (p ≥ 0.05). However, the magnitude-based inference indicates a tendency for improvement in the percentage of fat and fat mass in the GRF with D = -4.9% for fat percentage and D = -5.7% for fat mass. Conclusion: Protocols performed for 4 weeks were not effective in improving body composition.
