Introduction: The interest of running researchers and coaches on strategies to maximize performance has been growing in recent years. Aims: To evaluate the effect of different warm-up protocols on the performance of recreational runners. Methods: Eighteen runners (28 ± 6 years, 177.9 ± 6.1 cm, 75.8 ± 11.8 kg) were evaluated. The participants underwent 3 warm-up protocols: running exercise (RE), functional exercises (FE) and control (C), which did not perform any activity. The 20-minute continuous running test was used at maximum effort to evaluate performance. Results: The total distance at the end of the running test did not present significant difference between the 3 protocols of previous activities. The mean velocity did not show a significant difference between the RE, FE and C protocols. Conclusion: The warm-up performed for 10 minutes not improve the performance of recreational runners.
