Relação entre a potência muscular dos membros inferiores e a funcionalidade em idosos

Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a correlação entre potência muscular dos membros inferiores e desempenho funcional de idosas. Material e métodos: Compuseram a amostra 28 mulheres com as seguintes médias de idade, estatura e massa corporal: 71 ± 5 anos; 1,52 ± 0,1 m; 65,15 ± 10 kg. Para medir o desempenho funcional (DF), foram utilizados os seguintes testes: 1) Timed Up & Go Test (TUGT) e, 2) sentar e levantar na cadeira cinco vezes (SLC). Para a medida da potência foi utilizado o teste de subir escada. Para a verificação dos níveis de correlação foi utilizado o teste de correlação de Pearson e adotou-se um nível de significância de p < 0,05. Resultados: Os resultados médios para os testes funcionais foram: 6,06 ± 1,01 e 6,44 ± 1,42 seg., respectivamente para o TUGT e o SLC. O resultado médio para o teste de potência foi de 239,56 ± 49,45 N. Tais resultados denotam que a amostra apresenta elevado nível de desempenho funcional. Os resultados dos testes funcionais não apresentaram correlações significativas com a potência muscular. Conclusão: Embora o reduzido tamanho da amostra possa ter participação importante nos resultados, a ausência de correlação significativa pode ser atribuída í homogeneidade e aos elevados níveis de DF e PM dos sujeitos da amostra. Pode-se concluir que, em idosos independentes, as correlações entre o desempenho funcional e a potência muscular, não são significativas.
