Abstract

No iní­cio de uma regata, o barco é acelerado e a força nos remos alcança entre 1000 e 1500 N. Durante a regata, a velocidade é mantida em um ní­vel inferior com um pico de força de 500-700 N por meio de 210-230 remadas em torno de 6,5 min. Remadores utilizam um padrão fisiológico í­mpar de ritmo de competição; eles iniciam o esforço com uma largada vigorosa a qual exige uma demanda excessiva do metabolismo anaeróbico, seguida de um severo estado estável aeróbico e um exaustivo sprint final. Os remadores estão adaptados a este esforço devido a uma grande massa muscular e uma alta capacidade metabólica. Remadores apresentam valores de VO2 máx na ordem de 6,1 ± 0,6 L.min-1. Cálculos aeróbicos e anaeróbicos mostram que 70-75% da energia necessária para remar a distância padrão de2000 m em homens é derivada da aerobiose enquanto que os 25-30% restantes são anaeróbicos. A respiração é sincronizada com a mecânica da remada, um fenômeno chamado de acoplamento respiratório-locomotor. O limiar de lactato de4,0 mM superestima a intensidade correspondente a máxima fase estável de lactato (MLSS), enquanto que o limiar anaeróbico individual indica a MLSS durante um teste de exercí­cio com carga progressiva.
