The objective of this study was to compare the coronary risk among university students with normal and high Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) at a public institution of higher education. The sample consisted of 60 students of both genders (20.4 ± 2.0 years old). Data were obtained through the Coronary Index Test - RISKO of the Michigan Heart Association. In addition, we assessed age, heredity, body composition, smoking, level of physical activity, hypercholesterolemia and blood pressure. We used the Student t test, with a significance of p ≤ 0.05, through the program Bioestat® 5.3. The results showed that the coronary risk found the sample was 11.5 ± 3.0 points, with higher prevalence for the classification risk far below average (60.0%). The prevalence of high WHR was 28.0%. We note that individuals with high levels of WHR had higher coronary risk (12.9±3.4; p = 0.01). We conclude that the coronary risk is below average in the sample, and the participants who had high WHR had significantly higher coronary risk, compared to normal WHR.
