La aptitud física como signo vital: ¿por qué no la utilizamos en la práctica clínica?

Resumen

La inactividad física puede considerarse una enfermedad del siglo XXI. Entre varios parámetros físicos destacan la fuerza y ​​la aptitud cardiorrespiratoria, que están fuertemente asociados con la mortalidad y las enfermedades crónicas. Por lo tanto, proponemos que la aptitud física se puede utilizar como un signo vital y que la fuerza y ​​la aptitud cardiorrespiratoria se pueden aplicar para evaluar la salud en la práctica. Esto se puede lograr utilizando puntos de corte de fuerza muscular para personas mayores, como <32 kg para hombres y <21 para mujeres, usando un dinamómetro manual y <40% del peso corporal en extensión isométrica de rodilla. Asimismo, varias pruebas máximas y submáximas, como la prueba de carrera de 12 minutos o la prueba de pasos, pueden utilizarse como una alternativa de bajo costo para evaluar la aptitud cardiorrespiratoria. Por lo tanto, la evaluación de los parámetros de aptitud física puede ser una herramienta de detección prometedora y de bajo costo para identificar a los participantes en riesgo de discapacidad, enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles y pronóstico de supervivencia.
