Abstract

Objective: To analyze the epidemiology of the socioeconomic and clinical-surgical phenomena of victims of orthopedic trauma treated in an emergency. Methods: Cross-sectional retrospective survey, with a quantitative approach, conducted through the analysis of 580 medical records of patients with orthopedic trauma, between 2015 and 2019. The variables were age, gender, day of the week, service shift, origin, trauma mechanism, affected body part, treatment, length of stay and hospital outcome. Results: There was a predominance of males (79.7%), adults (54.2%), with trauma to the extremities (89.1%), due to motorcycle accidents (33.6%), from the capital and metropolitan areas (65.9%). There is a predominance of appointments on weekdays (67.6%), and the average stay at the hospital was 9.71 ± 14 days. Conclusion: Due to the exposed epidemiological profile, preventive measures are needed to raise the population's awareness about the means of transportation and traffic safety. The aim is also to contribute to health management in the development of strategies for structuring hospital units to care for orthopedic trauma.
