Objective: To identify the scientific production on the professional role of nurses in Primary Health Care units regarding their appreciation and social recognition. Methods: Integrative literature review carried out on the Medline, Lilacs, Web of Science and EMBASE databases between November and December 2021. Results: 14 articles made up the final sample of this review. The data was examined in two thematic categories: the role of nurses in Primary Health Care; the appreciation and social recognition of nurses (positive and negative aspects). Conclusion: The roles played by nurses indicate their fragile autonomy. With regard to valorization, nurses need to engage in defending their rights, acting on behalf of the profession and their identities.
