Fisioterapia Brasil is a free-access, online journal, through regular issues (6 issues per year) and thematic supplements.

The journal follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and adopts the principles of ethical conduct applied to editors, reviewers, researchers, and authors of the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), the Singapore Statement and the Hong Kong Principles on Research Integrity.

Research involving human subjects must be conducted and reported in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki 2013, and, in Brazil, the Resolution of the National Health Council No. 466 of 2012 December 12, or Resolution No. 510, of 2016 April 7 2016. These protocols include the approval of the research by a Research Ethics Committee and the signing of an informed consent form by the participants or their representatives.

The journal is published in Portuguese or English. After approval, the articles must be translated into English if submitted in Portuguese or translated into Portuguese if submitted in English.

The concepts, information, and declarations of the submitted articles are the sole responsibility of the authors.

Manuscripts must be sent exclusively to Fisioterapia Brasil, and simultaneous submission to other journal(s) is not allowed. The journal accepts articles initially published on pre-print websites or the expanded form of papers presented at conferences as abstracts or posters.

Peer Review Process

The article is received by the Chief Editor, who directs  to two independent reviewers who receive the text in its anonymous version. Reviewers can suggest modifications, request explanations, and make recommendations to authors. After the due corrections, the work must return to the Editor, which checks if the corrections were accepted. During any stage of the evaluation, the Editor may choose to reject the article if deemed necessary. The final decision on publication is the responsibility of the Editor. The review is double-blind: authors do not know who the ad hoc reviewers are, and reviewers do not know the identity or location of the authors. Interactions are mediated by executive editors, the only ones who know the identity of authors and reviewers. Communication between editors and reviewers is always carried out through the Fisioterapia Brasil electronic platform.

Attention: The time between submission and the reviewers' final evaluation is up to 45 days. If corrections are requested after the reviewers' evaluation, the authors will have up to 15 days to proceed with the adjustment of the article and resubmit it for the final opinion. The time for publication after final acceptance is up to 90 days.

Manuscript preparation

The recommendations on size of abstract and text, on number of references, figures and tables for each type of article to be published are found in Table I.

Editorial: Article that opens a discussion or presents a certain topic (only by invitation). Up to 3 authors are allowed.

Original article: Work resulting from scientific research presenting primary data regarding experimental, observational aspects, clinical trials, or case-control studies. It must contain the following sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References.

Review: Work that critically exposes the state of knowledge on a topic. Reviews necessarily consist of analysis, synthesis, and discussion of original articles already published in journals, preferably in the previous 5 years. Preference will be given to systematic reviews with or without meta-analysis and, when not carried out, the reason for choosing the methodology used must be justified.

Case report: Article that presents descriptive data of one or more clinical or therapeutic cases with similar characteristics. The publication of case reports necessarily depends on the presence of at least one of three factors: rare health condition, unexpected outcome and/or innovative intervention.

Experience report: Article that describes an experience that can contribute to your area of expertise. It reports a professional experience considered successful or not, but useful to the discussion, exchange and proposition of ideas for the improvement of health care.

Commented article: Article based on a prominent previous study, on which the authors express their opinion by supplementing the matter with recent findings (by invitation only).

Update article: Up-to-date (last 3 years) summary of available knowledge on a subject.

Opinion article: Comments, opinions, or point of view on relevant or controversial issues by invitation or spontaneous demand.

Letter to the editor: Must be sent within 20 days after the last issue of the journal. They must contribute or question some point of an article published in the most current issue of the journal. Both the letter to the editor and the authors' response will be published in the next issue of Fisioterapia Brasil.

1.Only by invitation of the Scientific Editor; 2. All text must be written in Arial font size 11, with 1.5 spacing without space before and after the paragraph. After completion, it is necessary to include the following items: academic affiliation, conflict of interest and authors' contribution (see example at the end of the text). 3. References follow the Vancouver standard. In the text, references must be inserted in square brackets and size 11; 4. Arial font size 11 with single spacing and centered text, with space before and after the paragraph. 5. All authors must submit ORCID registration and Lattes curriculum (for Brazilian authors). Titles will not be placed, only institutional affiliations.

All items must be submitted in Word format, using the Fisioterapia Brasil platform with tables and figures within the text, or attached when dealing with bulky appendices or documents.

The recommendations for the format of the figures are preferably PNG or JPEG with a resolution of 300 dpi. The tables must be sent in editable format (Word).

Except for the Letter to the Editor, Editorial and Commented Article, all others must contain after completion the Academic Link, Conflicts of Interest and Authors' Contribution before the references.

Other points needed for publication

Authors should use the checklists and guidelines for each study design listed below.

Study registration

The journal supports the clinical trial registration policies of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Therefore, only clinical research articles that have received an identification number in the clinical trial registry validated by the criteria established by the WHO and ICMJE, like  Registro Brasileiro de Ensaios Clínicos – REBEC (http://www.ensaiosclinicos.gov.br/). The identification number must be stated at the end of the section Methods.

As with Clinical Trials, Systematic Review studies with or without Meta-analysis submitted to Fisioterapia Brasil must present a review protocol registration number on the PROSPERO platform.

Manuscript organization

The Cover Sheet must be sent in a separate document, containing the following information:

  • Title of the work in Portuguese and English;
  • Full name of authors and main affiliations;
  • Corresponding author, with the respective address (preferably professional address), telephone and e-mail;
  • Email, Curriculum Lattes and ORCID of all authors
  • Total number of words.

Title: The title of the article must have  5 to 15 words, summarizing the content of the article (topic, method, results), without acronyms, abbreviations, or commas.

Authors: For indexing reasons, all manuscripts must mention the title, institution, Lattes Curriculum and ORCID of all authors. This information must be listed in the initial manuscript and can be included in the registration of the article's authors (put the link to Lattes in the URL box). In the final PDF edition of the article, only the author's full name, institution, and the corresponding author's address and e-mail are shown.

Abstract: The abstract must present the objectives, methods, results, and main conclusions (in English, Portuguese and Spanish). The number of words must comply with the recommendations in Table I. Do not use abbreviations or acronyms in the article title, subtitles, and abstracts.

Keywords: Every article must contain a minimum of three and a maximum of five keywords. The keywords, in Portuguese and English, must follow the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS). Avoid reproducing the words used in the title in keywords.

Abbreviations and acronyms: They must be preceded by the full name when mentioned for the first time in the text.

Introduction: Presents the subject and objective of the study in a concise manner, based on current or classical references of relevance.

Methods: Must describe the experiment (quantity and quality) and procedures in sufficient detail to allow other researchers to reproduce the results or continue the study. When reporting experiments on human and animal topics, indicate whether the rules of the Ethics Committee on Human Experiences of the Institution in which the research was carried out were followed and whether the procedures are in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and Animal Experimentation Ethics. Precisely identify all drugs and chemical substances used, including generic names, dosages, and forms of administration. Do not use patient names, initials, or hospital records. Quote references when using statistical procedures.

Results: Present the results in a logical sequence of the text, using tables and illustrations. Do not repeat in the text all the data contained in tables and/or illustrations. In the text, emphasize or summarize only the important results.

Discussion: Emphasize new and important aspects of the study. The results of the study should be compared and discussed with those of other studies on the subject, so that the similarities and disagreements found, with their respective explanations, are properly identified.

Conclusion: Must be clear and concise, establishing a relationship with the study objectives, according to the results. Therefore, the conclusions should only contain direct answers to the study objectives based on its results.

References: Cite the essential references to the article content. Number the references consecutively according to the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. In the body of the text, references must be placed in Arabic numerals between square brackets in Arial font Size 11.

References should be written in Vancouver format, as instructed in the document: Citing Medicine: The NLM Style Guide for Authors, Editors and Publishers

Journal titles are abbreviated according to the list of journals available on the Virtual Health Library website. The DOI number can be found on the Crossref website.

After definitive acceptance, you will be asked:

Academic affiliation: This article represents (Master's Degree, Part of Thesis, etc.) of (author's full name), supervised by the professor (title followed by full name) in (Institution name and local).

Conflict of interests: Responsibility to recognize and declare financial and other conflicts of interest (commercial, personal, or political) related to the topic and the development of the article submitted for publication. Authors must declare and can thank in the manuscript for all financial support for the work, as well as other support for its development. The declaration must be described in the corresponding section of the article and sent using the properly completed Conflict of Interest document.

Funding: Report funding sources. Inform the absence of funding.

Author contributions: Authors must be assigned by last name and abbreviated initials for each item below:

  • Conception and design of the research;
  • Obtaining data;
  • Analysis and interpretation of data;
  • Statistical analysis;
  • Obtaining financing;
  • Writing of the manuscript;
  • Critical review of the manuscript for important intellectual content.

Acknowledgments (optional): Directed to people who have collaborated intellectually, but whose contribution does not justify co-authorship, or to those who have provided material support.

Absence of plagiarism or self-plagiarism

Plagiarism tracking is carried out systematically after article submission through Similarity Check (iThenticate). Articles that show a high rate of similarity with material published in ISSN or ISBN vehicles without proper citations will be rejected. The content of research from academic works (theses, dissertations, TCC), even when deposited in institutional repositories, presentations at conferences in the form of abstracts or posters, articles presented on pre-print sites, are not considered as self-plagiarism, provided they have not been published in journals (with ISSN) or books (with ISBN).

Evaluation and publication fees

The Journal charges an evaluation fee of BRL 250.00 which must be deposited with the article submission, and not after acceptance. and a publication fee of BRL 250.00, which must be deposited in the following account:

After submission, the author receives an confirmation e-mail and can follow the processing of their article on the website. After acceptance a publication fee of BRL 250.00 will be required.

Summary of documents that must be sent:

  • Cover sheet with all information about the authors;
  • Body of the article in an anonymous version, including abstract and references for review by peer reviewers;
  • Declaration of exclusivity;
  • Letter from the Ethics Committee when necessary;
  • Declaration of conflicts of interest;
  • Other documents that are not in the body of the article: appendices, questionnaires, protocols, etc.;
  • Authorization of the copyright owner in case of use of data or illustrations published by another publisher (books, articles).

How to submit an article?

The journal is open access, but to submit an article, the author must be registered as "Author". When done, the author receives a login and password to submit articles and follow the evaluation and publication process online.

Enter "New submission" and follow the submission procedure step by step, after carefully reading the Author Guidelines.
