Depressão em pacientes com dor lombar crônica

Lombalgia crônica é uma das causas mais comuns de incapacidade física no mundo. A presença de depressão pode contribuir para a cronificação da dor lombar. O objetivo do presente estudo é revisar a literatura acerca da associação entre lombalgia crônica e depressão. Foi realizada pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases de dados da PubMed e Bireme, utilizando-se os descritores low back pain, depression e chronic pain. Foram avaliados artigos publicados nos últimos 12 anos (1998–2010) e também aqueles mencionados nas referências envolvendo dados epidemiológicos, repercussões e tratamento de pacientes com lombalgia crônica e depressão. A exata natureza da relação entre depressão e lombalgia não está estabelecida. A sintomatologia depressiva em pessoas com dor lombar crônica está associada í maior incapacitação, pior qualidade de vida e aumento de gastos com saúde. O tratamento da lombalgia associada í depressão exige equipe multidisciplinar. As metas são a redução da dor, da incapacidade física e da sintomatologia depressiva. O tratamento adequado reduz a cronificação da dor, aumenta a autonomia e produtividade do paciente e melhora a sua qualidade de vida.
