Microneedling versus galvanic microcurrent associated with chemical peel in striae alba

Abstract

Introduction: Stretch marks are the elementary skin lesions that most affect females. They may be due to multiple etiologies, such as genetic, hormonal and mechanical factors. The main forms of treatment include micro-needling, galvanopuncture and chemical peeling techniques. Objective: To compare the influence of the use of micro-needling and galvanic microcurrent associated with chemical peeling on the appearance of striae alba in the gluteal region of young women. Methods: 11 women, with skin phototype II to V according to Fitzpatrick, participated of the study, mean age of 22.18 + 2.04 years, with stretch marks in the gluteus region, and were divided into two groups: micro-needling (GM) (N = 6) and galvanopuncture and chemical peeling techniques (GMgP) (N = 5) and were evaluated by pre and post treatment images. Results: The aspect of stretch marks improved in both groups, however, qualitatively, the GM group obtained better results. Conclusion: The micro-needling technique obtained the better results, both regarding pain tolerance and treatment adherence, as well as regarding the appearance and texture of stretch marks.
