Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological development disorder that affects domains of social communication, behavior, cognition and motor perception. Objective: To identify the benefits of equine therapy for people with ASD, its form of realization and the profile of the individuals who participated in the research. Method: Integrative Literature Review, quantitative and qualitative, using the DeCS “Horse Assisted Therapy” and “Hypotherapy”, separately, in the Bireme and CAPES journals databases; and “Equine-Assisted Therapy’’ and “Hippotherapy’’, separately, at PEDro, with selected publications from 2015 to 2019, in Portuguese, Spanish and English, with 8 selected works. Results: Seven (7) studies showed statistically significant effects in the social/behavioral, physical, communicative, cognitive/educational aspects, autism rate, daily activities, empathy, animal attachment and engagement. Two (2) studies indicated non-statistically significant benefits in the social/behavioral, physical, communication and cognitive/educational aspects. One (1) study pointed out qualitative beneficial results for physical appearance. Conclusion: Hippotherapy, in its various forms of use, associated or not with other therapeutic resources, can provide socio-behavioral, physical, communicative, cognitive/educational benefits, autism rate, daily activities, empathy, animal attachment and engagement with people with ASD.
