Introduction: Ventilatory musculature dynapenia is related to postoperative respiratory complications and deaths of elderly patients submitted to surgical procedures of thoracic-abdominal etiology. Objective: To verify the chronic effect of cardiorespiratory training on the strength of the ventilatory muscles of elderly women. Methods: Sample (n = 24) randomized in the groups: control (n = 8), ventilatory training (n = 7) and cardiorespiratory training (n = 9). The primary outcome (MIP and MEP) was measured by a MDV®300 digital manovacuometer (MDI/Brazil). Calculated descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), followed by an ANOVA 3x3 and post-hoc Bonferroni tests, all with a significance (P ≤ 0.05). Result: The Post Hoc test showed a statistically significant difference of the cardiorespiratory training group in retest 1 and 2 when compared to the initial test (MIP; P = 0.000001 and P = 0.0000001 respectively) and (MEP; P = 0.000000 in both comparisons). Conclusion: The proposed cardiorespiratory training was able to significantly increase the MIP, MEP, aerobic resistance, and lower limb strength of the participants of this RCT.
