Introduction: The aging is a natural process that causes declines in health. Residents in long-term care facilities for the elderly (LTC) have higher rates of falls than the elderly in the community, requiring greater attention. Objective: To describe the occurrence of falls in institutionalized elderly and the offer of physical activity available within the LTC in the Federal District, Brazil. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive, exploratory study, with a quantitative approach, using the Federal District's LTC as a scenario. Descriptive variables were organized in an Excel® spreadsheet, the data analysis was done through absolute and relative frequency. Results: Ten LTC participated in the study, these being private, philanthropic and mixed, and may have their own or rented property. Most residents are female, and the age group was 60 to 104 years old among the elderly. All LTC offered physical activity and the incidence of falls was between 0% and 27.27% in 2017 in the institutions surveyed. Conclusion: In all institutions, the physiotherapist was a professional responsible for offering physical activities, considering that this professional is trained to prescribe activities aimed at functional physical rehabilitation. Further studies need to be conducted on this topic in order to carry out future interventions with this audience.
