Introduction: Ageing is a normal development process involving neurobiological changes that can alter the body's physiology and impact functional capacity, making the elderly susceptible to chronic diseases. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized as a neurodegenerative disease often associated with age, altering the cognitive level and later the functioning of the body and various abilities. Art therapy emerges as a therapeutic process that seeks to help people reach the contents of their unconscious and export them and can thus be a tool for non-drug intervention in Alzheimer's disease. Objective: The present study aimed to present the benefits of art therapy as a therapeutic intervention related to the treatment of patients with Alzheimer's, seeking to summarize the best resource, in addition to the impact of art therapy on cognitive and functional improvement. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted using controlled clinical trials, experimental trials, or case reports published between 2010 and 2023 in the PUBMED and SciELO databases. Results: We found 11 studies related to the use of art therapy in patients with AD, which pointed to its benefits in preserving residual cognition and improving and enhancing functionality. Conclusion: Art can be safely applied as an intervention in the treatment of people with Alzheimer's disease, having positive effects on cognition and functionality, with music therapy being the most cited and used therapy.
