Abstract

Background: Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) is a prevalent condition and impacts negatively on emotional and quality of life. Despite the suppose relation between FSD sexual distress (SD) and emotional intelligence (EI), the association between them remains unclear. Objective: To study the female sexual function and its association with SD and EI. Methods: Invitation on social networks and posters for assessment of sexual function with the FSFI, SD with Female Sexual Distress Scale – Revised (FSDSr) and EI with the AES, and a sociodemographic questionnaire; associations by T-test or Chi-square. Results: Of the 39 sexually active women who answered the questions, 25.6% presented DSF, with 58.9% in the orgasm domain, 56.4% in the domains pain and excitement, 51.3% satisfaction, 43.5% desire and 41% lubrication. Age and use of hormonal contraceptives were associated with DSF. IE was inversely related to the DSF, and there was a strong association between DSF and SD. Conclusion: DSF is associated with the SD and lowest scores of EI, and younger ages and the use of hormonal contraceptives.
