The objective of this study was to verify how the anxiety in the sport context can interfere in the performance. This is a systematic review work based on the last five years and three databases: Pubmed, EBSCO and Scielo. Key words were used in Portuguese and English to broaden the search for scientific articles. The key-words were: anxiety, sports and competition. The criteria used for inclusion were: articles published in English and Portuguese in the period from 2012 to 2017, participants older than 18 years of age. The results showed that within the researches carried out in the databases used, a total of 46 articles were found in EBSCO, of which 14 were included and 32 were excluded. In relation to the Pubmed database, a total of 48 articles were found, of which 21 were included and 27 excluded. In the Scielo database, a total of 21 articles were found, of which 5 were included and 16 were excluded. In the sports environment, encompassing the area of Physical Education, sports psychology shows its importance from the basis of sports training, to the high level of competitive performance. We note that in the construction of their training programs, including mental strategies, in order to generate significant improvements in sports performance, much needs to be studied, analyzed and grounded, however, in the field of sports psychology is in great expansion, and with this they have been showing their importance both in the field of sports training and in the scope of high performance and performance.
