Cardiac rehabilitation is the total of the activities to ensure better physical, mental and social conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects caused by aerobic exercise and resistance training in cardiac patients with respect to functional capacity, muscular strength and quality of life. We analyzed the 6MWT, the 10 repetition maximum test and the questionnaire quality of life SF-36 in 25 cardiac patients of both sexes, divided into three groups: Group 1 - aerobic training, Group 2 - combined training (aerobic and resistance) and Group 3 - resistance training (muscle strengthening). The programs were performed for a period of eight weeks, with a frequency of three times per week, for about 50 minutes each session. We observed a significant improvement in muscle strength in all groups, and this effect was more pronounced in the group of endurance training. Functional capacity improved, although not statistically significant in all groups, especially when linked to the strength and endurance exercises. Resistance training and the combination significantly improved the social aspect related to quality of life. According to our results, combined training (aerobic and resistance) improves cardiorespiratory fitness, and is fundamental in a cardiac rehabilitation program.
