Several factors present in modern society have contributed to the increase of sedentary behavior among children. On the other hand, the number of children engaged in punctual physical exercise programs, such as functional training, increases. In this sense, the objective of this research was to verify and analyze the opinion of parents and children about the practice of functional training in childhood. Two groups of volunteers, composed of 10 children aged 5 to 12 years (8.1 ± 2.3 years), authorized by the parents, and another group of 7 adults (responsible for the children) were interviewed. To interpret the results, the data were grouped into similar sets of responses and statistical tests performed using the Graphpad Prism 6.0 program. The results were expressed in percentage and absolute distribution. The first question addressed to parents sought to understand why they placed their child to practice functional training and most reported the promotion of health and quality of life of their children (85.7%). Parents noted various behavioral and / or physical differences in their children with functional training - changes in physical abilities (71.4%), health and quality of life (57.2%) and changes in body and aesthetics (42.8%). However, the most reported change was related to socialization (85.7%). Regarding the children, it is noticed that the reasons for them are practicing the functional training, confirming the predominance of health and quality of life reported by the parents (70.0%). Still, most of the children enjoy the activities done in the sessions, but they do not have any preferred (60.0%), half enjoy the games (50.0%) and a minority (30.0%) commented that they do not like exercises. Considering the findings in this study, it can be concluded that functional training seems an interesting strategy of physical exercise for children, being an effective modality to improve the motor development and to incite the practice of physical activity from an early age, increasing the chances of becoming older adults active.
