The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the passive stretching of the antagonist muscles previously of muscle strength training in neural adaptations and maximal isometric strength. Eleven young women with no strength training experience (24 ± 1.61 years) underwent anthropometric, body, electromyography and maximal isometric evaluation, after which they underwent a six-week muscle strength training program with training loads at 60%, 70%, 80% and 90% of 10 RM, with differentiated protocols: a group with traditional strength training (GTFT), a force training group with passive stretching of the antagonist (GTFc/A) and a group Control (GC). In the week after the end of the intervention as volunteers they were reevaluated with the same tests at the beginning of the study. When comparing the levels of electrical activity and maximum isometric force between initial performance and final performance, the GTFT showed higher results at the peak of maximum action in relation to the rest, considering the maximum isometric force. The strength training group with stretching (GTFc/A) also showed higher results after an intervention, but not significantly. There were no significant changes in muscle electrical activity. The passive stretching of the antagonist muscles prior to the force exercises during six weeks did not influence negatively, either positively or maximally, but the results showed a tendency for a positive influence, new studies are need, with larger sample, to confirm these results.
