Abstract

Introduction: Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is the etiological agent of Tropical Spastic Paraparesis/HTLV-1-associated myelopathy that causes the individual to present motor, sensory and urinary tract dysfunction impairments. Methods: A 58-year-old female patient, resident of Belém/PA, with clinical diagnosis of tropical spastic paraparesis associated with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) and Parkinson's disease, presented dysfunctional neurogenic bladder, and performed 10 sessions of a physiotherapeutic protocol. Results: The intervention protocol positively affected the patient's quality of life, with a decrease in the score values of 6 domains evaluated by the King's Health questionnaire and in the urinary symptoms reported by the patient. Conclusion: The results suggest that pelvic physiotherapy is a viable option in improving the quality of life of patients with neurogenic bladder.
