Scientific evidence about the temperature of radiofrequency application in cellulite: literature review

Fibroedema Geloid (FEG) is a vascular and aesthetic disorder, with a higher incidence in women, which can lead to a reduction in quality of life and self-esteem. Since radiofrequency is a resource for its treatment, this review sought scientific evidence on its application, ideal temperature for better results and the level of evidence of the studies. Through a search in the electronic databases Pubmed, Lilacs, Web of Science and Cochrane, searches were limited between 2006 and 2019, with the descriptors radiofrequency, cellulite, celulite, celulites and the keyword: gynoid lipodystrophy, in Portuguese and English. Studies that described the objective of investigating radiofrequency alone in the FEG were included. 206 studies were found and 12 included. Limitations were found regarding the methodology applied in the sample scope, methodology used, and/or data analysis and absence of application parameters. As for temperature, a greater representation was observed between 40 and 42oC, with moderate levels of evidence regarding the studies. Future work is needed with greater standardization of parameters, in addition to greater methodological rigor for a better investigation of the ideal temperature for the treatment of FEG.
